Can I See a Podiatrist with OSHC in Australia?

If you are a student in Australia with OSHC and have foot problems, you can see a podiatrist. Many students do not know this. You can also get help from Medicare to make it affordable.

At The Foot Hub, we help international students with foot problems. We know the healthcare system can seem confusing. But getting podiatry care is actually simple.

Your OSHC Can Help Pay for Podiatry

You have OSHC (Overseas Student Health Cover). This means you can get help with podiatry costs. But this only works for OSHC. It does not work for visitor insurance.

The best way is through Medicare. You need something called a GPCCMP. This is a “GP Chronic Condition Management Plan.” It sounds complicated, but it is not.

What Is a GP Chronic Condition Management Plan?

A GPCCMP is a plan your doctor makes. Your GP writes down your health problems. Then they can send you to other health professionals like podiatrists.

You need this plan if you have health problems for 6 months or more. This includes:

  • Diabetes foot problems
  • Foot arthritis
  • Ongoing foot pain
  • Ingrown toenails that keep coming back
  • Fungal nail infections
  • Walking problems

How to Get Started

Step 1: Book a GP appointment

Step 2: Get your referral If you qualify, your GP will make the plan. They will give you a referral paper for podiatry.

Step 3: Book at The Foot Hub Bring your referral to your appointment. That is all you need.

Cost Breakdown

At The Foot Hub, an appointment costs $130*.

With your referral, Medicare gives you back $61.80**.

You pay: $130 – $61.80 = $68.20

*Fee as of September 2025. Please check the fee page for updated pricing.
**This amount can change each year. Check the government website for current rates.

The 5-Visit Rule

You can have 5 visits per year with Medicare rebates. You can use all 5 for podiatry. Or you can split them – maybe 3 podiatry visits and 2 physiotherapy visits.

The rebate covers:

  • Consultation with podiatrist
  • Foot assessment
  • Nail care
  • Foot pain
  • Corns and calluses
  • Ingrown toenail treatment
  • Treatment advice

The rebate does NOT cover:

Making Your Visits Count

Since you have 5 visits per year, use them well. We will discuss the best plan at your first appointment.

If you need more than 5 visits, you can still come to The Foot Hub. But extra visits will have standard fees apply.
